18th FOX-N-HOUNDS RALLY
Sponsored by Ken & Diana Brasfield
August 19, 2017
We have been unsuccessful in running this rally in the past due to it being a weather-sensitive event, and this has not changed. This year Mark Harris and Diana Brasfield will be my Assistant Rally Masters.
We will meet at the Pilot Gasoline Station in Greeneville, Virginia located at the intersection of US-11, US-340 and I-81. Driver and navigator's meeting will be at 9:30 AM. Cars will depart one at a time between 9:45 and 10 AM.
The point of this rally is for the hounds (cars) to follow the fox’s trail (Mark and me) from the starting point (Pilot Gasoline Station in Greeneville) to the fox’s lair within the allotted time, covering the shortest distance, but not shorter than the official trail. The fox’s trail is marked by blobs of lime on the right hand side of the road. The blobs of lime consist of a decision blob and then a confirmation blob. The first blob tells you there is a decision to be made at the next intersection as to which way the fox went. If you make the correct decision, you will see a confirmation blob no more than ½ mile from where you turned. If you see the confirmation blob you are on the correct course and should continue to the next blob which will be another decision blob. If you made an incorrect decision as to which way the fox went you will have to turn around and go back to the intersection and try another direction. It is very important to keep the correct order of the blobs: decision, confirmation, decision, confirmation.
Mark and I will take down names of the hounds and record your mileage from your odometers. You should start with a full tank and an empty bladder! We will also ask you to zero out your trip meters. You can use GPS or anything else you like as they will be of no value in running the course! Please bring your own lunch and your favorite beverage. There will be beverages and awards at the fox’s lair!
Let’s hope for no rain and good hunting!
